50 Book Challenge 2010...and more
Dec. 2nd, 2010 06:48 pmWell, I've read 42/50 books so far this year. A few of them were 800 plus pages, so it feels as though I've read more books than I actually have. *g*
Do you think I'll make it to my 50 book goal? Or have I left it too late? 8 books in a month. Hmm, I'll give it a go, but it's going to be close! :)
So today is comicwank day. Oh dear. And that's all I have to say about that. Thank goodness S8 is almost over!
It's still freezing cold outside, but the snow seems to have stopped (thank goodness). K's college (which is based at her old school) was open, but she decided not to go in anyway, as the roads were treacherous this morning and it takes her a good hour on the school bus to get there. She's also got a severe muscle strain in her shoulder that she should be resting, which is easier said than done when you're a wheelchair user and rely on your arms to get around! And in this weather getting around is a nightmare. *sigh*
Hope it's not too cold where you are! :)

Signal Boosting
Jul. 2nd, 2010 09:39 pmThe discrimination that people with disabilities have to put up with in this world upsets and angers me more than I can say.
Most of you know that my daughter is a full time wheelchair user, so this sort of attitude isn't new to me. But every time it happens it still feels like a punch to the gut.

Disability, fandom, and me: Here's your place, live in it, or the VVC storm
This has got to be one of the worst cases of discrimination I have ever had the misfortune to come across in fandom, and believe me when I say I've come across quite a few in my time.
Isn't it about time this sort of thing stopped happening?
ETA: And just so you know, this isn't the first time I've posted about disability and fandom. The sad thing is, I can't see things changing any time soon. *sigh*

Short rant on disability
Aug. 2nd, 2007 07:07 pmSo it seems that there are some people in fandom who have issues with people with disabilities going in to gigs early and *gasp* daring to take more than one friend with them. Yes, you read that right...I said friend. Not helper, friend. Believe it or not disabled people have friends too, you know.

Sorry for the rant, but I tend to get very passionate about this subject. :)
